Drummer Jojo
Well respected in the music industry for being a brilliant drummer and programmer, Joseph “Jojo” Kuo continues to make meaningful contributions to the African music, art, and cultural space. The Cameroonian is known for his unique craft, having created and performed music with legends like Fela Kuti, Papa Wemba, Mory Kante, and Harry Belafonte, just to name a few.
Even as early as the 1980s, Jojo’s talent was astounding, not just in drumming but also in producing original musical tapestry. He is probably the first African musician to use electronic drums and computing technology to program music and produces groundbreaking sounds. His musical genius contributed to the success of songs like “Yéké Yéké”, which sold over a million records globally.
Jojo comes from a musical family and his artistic potential was spotted at a very young age having started performing for crowds at the age of 15. He even went to study music in France and performed all over Africa and the Diaspora. To this day, Jojo still performs with his band in numerous locations all over America. Jojo is considered a giant in the industry and a mentor to many upcoming artists.
