Through films like New Morning, which powerfully portrays the devastating impact of domestic violence, African cinema sheds light on struggles, resilience, and the urgent need for change. This acclaimed short film won the British Film Institute Special Recognition Award for Best Short Film at the ZAAFA Global Awards in 2014. It is accompanied by a powerful music album produced by @dejiarosho, featuring tracks from celebrated artists like Waje, Omawumi, MI, and El Dee. Both the film and album were supported by the Heinrich Boell Foundation. In the spirit of UNITE, The Nigerian Women in Fil In the spirit of UNITE, The Nigerian Women in Film & TV chapter (FWIFT) is proud to announce a significant gathering of film and TV industry leaders as well as policy makers at a Round Table united against gender-based violence, on Thursday the 12th of December in Lagos. The why is succinctly captured by its president, Ms. Ajoke Silva who says, "Gender-based violence is not just a personal issue. It is an epidemic that affects women at all levels of society. Storytelling through films, and TV is a powerful tool to shift mindsets and change the narrative.” Though there is a dearth of movies/stories that specifically address the ‘casting couch’ phenomenon, we will be previewing the film titled NEW MORNING, directed by @dejiarosho , as a peg for the conversation. We will be X-raying the phenomenon and seeking solutions that establish a more vibrant sector that respects everyone’s right’s. AFAF is proud to be a supporter of this worthwhile event.
