Our internship program provides a professional  environment where students can explore working behind the scenes of festival producing, learn the business of non-profit management in the creative industry  and develop skills working in  non-profit management.

We provide a platform to celebrate, support and exhibit Films and Creative content from the African Continent and its diaspora. We currently produce two signature events, a year-long Cinema for the Culture Screening series + Talkback with Filmmakers and its annual African Film Festival Atlanta.

For our internship programs we are looking for interns interested in producing Film Festivals, Events Management, Communications, Public Relations, Program management, Business development, Non-Profit management, curating creative programs, Social Media Management,  Digital content production, Writing, Graphic design and Web design (both backend and frontend)

We seek Interns that are dedicated, can work solo and/or within a team, accountable,  creative, quick on their feet, open to learning new things, flexible, enjoy working in a fast-paced work environment and enjoy interacting and working in the creative arts.

General Requirements

Currently all our positions are remote,  (except for communications interns who may need to attend foundation related events in Atlanta) and we are open to Interns from anywhere in the world.

If you would like to Volunteer, the positions below are also open to Volunteers too.

All Interns/Volunteers

  • Should be Internet savvy with their own working WIFI & Computer/Laptop.
  • Familiar with video conferencing software like Zoom, Google Meet
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral.
  • Should be adaptable and flexible with good problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Must be able to work on their own as well as in a team. Professionalism and good work ethics are very important to us.

We encourage students who seek internships for college credit, as well as newly qualified graduates who are seeking real-world professional experience working with a media arts non-profit organization.

Positions

  • Liaison with media outlets, community organizations , corporate organizations to promote foundations goals and missions.
  • Create and disburse monthly newsletter, press releases and digital marketing for upcoming events.
  • Maintaining Foundations Business Profile on LinkedIn whilst making new connections.
  • Create Social Media Campaigns for sponsorship, fundraising and promoting of foundations programs with assistance from other teams.
  • Assist with event planning.
  • Attend film related events with Foundation team ( for Atlanta based only)
  • Managing film submission process on Filmfreeway for the African Film Festival Atlanta.
  • Recruit film jury for film viewings/judging.
  • Coordinate Film evaluations with Jury members.
  • Communicate with Filmmakers around film submission and acceptance to Film Festival.
  • Assist Program assistant with any other admin task for Foundations signature events.
  • Responsible for assisting with all program/event logistics including budgeting, film &venue scheduling etc for our signature events.
  • Manage online & in-person  film screenings and in-conversation sessions.
  • Liaise with Web developer to make website updates.
  • Create program content for signature events including synopsis for films, program outline, program brochure, etc.
  • Communicate with individuals such as Filmmakers, Film industry personnel, Artists Scholars, Cultural Workers etc. who may be participating in organizations programs.
  • Maintain organizations newsletter (Mailchimp).
  • Support AFAF team at online & in-person events.

             

  • Manage all social media accounts for the organization – Instagram, X, facebook, YouTube.
  • Create & distribute weekly curated content on social media accounts to reach the organizations target audience.
  • Create an audience building strategy to increase social media followers.
  • Create and design graphics, special effects, and other creative assets using images, video, etc. for use in social media marketing efforts. (please send link to sample work. If there is no link, application will not be considered).
  • Develop website content to support organizational goals and strategies.
  • Reply to, troubleshoot and resolve website issues.
  • Create strategies to improve website traffic.
  • Identify ways to improve website user experience.
  • Research and implement security measures to protect websites.
  • Design digital assets for website including graphics, special effects, and other creative assets using pictures, video, etc. for use on website and social media. (please send link to sample work).

  • Dedicated writer/interviewer  for our African Reel Vblog series
  • Identifying and contacting potential sponsors/partners.
  • Identifying funding sources and assisting in funding application.
  • Promoting the business through marketing and word-of-mouth.
  • Creating client proposals and contracts.
  • Evaluating a company’s portfolio and the competitive market
  • Identifying ways to expand company’s services.
